The Soundtrack of Our Office: Playlists Made by the People Who Work Here

Every office has its own rhythm. Ours, apparently, has a shuffle button.

Over the past few months, something quietly wonderful has taken hold around the office: people have started making Spotify playlists for each other. Not curated-by-committee corporate playlists, not generic “Focus Beats” on autoplay — real, personal mixes built by real colleagues, with all the quirks that come with them.

It started with one shared link in a chat channel. Someone dropped a “Monday Morning Reset” playlist, half lo-fi, half unexpectedly loud indie rock, and the floodgates opened. Within a week we had three more. Within a month, a small library.

Here’s a taste of what’s been spinning:

• Deep Work Mode — mostly instrumental, heavy on ambient and modern classical. Perfect for the 10 a.m. silence when everyone’s heads-down.
• Friday Kitchen Vibes — the unofficial soundtrack of the coffee machine queue. Funk, soul, a few guilty-pleasure pop bangers nobody will admit to adding.
• Sprint Push — loud, fast, unapologetic. Built for those final hours before a deadline when energy matters more than taste.
• Slow Afternoon — acoustic, warm, a little melancholic. The antidote to the 3 p.m. slump.
• Global Commute — contributions from colleagues in different cities, featuring tracks in at least six languages.

Playlists, it turns out, are a small and generous act. A way of saying: here’s something I like, I thought you might like it too.
